The presentation for employees at the Apple campus in Cupertino, California, last month revealed plans to produce a virtual reality device in 2022 and "sharper" augmented reality glasses in 2023, according to people related to the event.

Apple senior managers said it would take about a decade for augmented reality devices to replace the iPhone, whose sales fell 12% in the third quarter of this year.

None of these products has been officially announced. Still, according to several people who attended the event, the first one will resemble the Oculus Quest virtual reality headset from Facebook, with a high-resolution screen, cameras installed outside, and the ability to map the environment.

The second device is more similar to sunglasses with thick frames, which will house a battery and processors. It is designed for use throughout the day and is closer to the concept that will replace the iPhone.

Previous reports pointed to the next year for the departure of these smart glasses.

Apple has been working on this type of project since at least 2015, according to rumors.

Augmented reality is that the device interface overlaps reality in the field of vision or on the screen.

In February 2017, the company's chief executive, Tim Cook, expressed  his "excitement" for this technology, which he considered as "something huge" that could "improve the lives of many," in addition to "being entertained."

Last June, Apple announced the introduction of new tools for the development of augmented reality-based programs: ARKit 3, RealityKit, and Reality Compose.
